Mead Day

A day to celebrate the oldest alcoholic drink in the world. Believed to date back 8,000 years Mead is the precursor to wine and other alcoholic beverages. Made by fermenting honey and water, Mead is the ambrosia nectar enjoyed by the Gods in Ancient Greece, Norse mythology, Celtic legends and is referenced in Chaucer’s Tales and Harry Potter.

So it only seems fitting that we have a day marked in the calendar to celebrate this ancestral beverage.

Following in the footsteps of craft beer, fruit cider and craft gin revivals, mead is enjoying a resurgence in popularity. At Mella Mead we understand why. We pride ourselves on creating a traditional mead, produced with just two main ingredients Homey and water. This is not a sweet cloying honey wine, we don’t use grapes or add any extra sugars.

If you have not yet tasted the golden nectar then please enjoy 10% off any online order until 10th August in celebration of Mead Day. Simply quote Mead-10 at checkout.
